Massage Device Amplitude Explained
Amplitude is the distance of mechanical movement. In recovery devices it is often described as stroke length, and it is one of the most important reasons two devices with similar speed can feel completely different.
Short stroke
Short-stroke devices move a smaller distance each cycle and can operate at very high cycle rates.
Longer stroke
Percussion products often emphasize deeper travel and a more pronounced tapping sensation.
Amplitude is not a quality score
More travel is not automatically better, and less travel is not automatically gentler for every person or body area.
Compare with frequency
Always read amplitude alongside speed, contact surface, pressure, weight, and intended technique.
Rapid Release reference
Rapid Release publishes a 1/16-inch (1.6 mm) stroke for the Pro3+ and uses short stroke as a major category differentiator.
